If you are worried about someone in prison you can contact the safer custody teams.
When you call the Safer Custody team at the prison you may be put through to voicemail, the voicemails are checked regularly throughout the day. On the voicemail you will need to give the following information;
- your own name and number
- name of prisoner you are concerned about and their prison number/ date of birth
- detailed explanation of what your concern is
If your concern is urgent and you need to speak to someone immediately or it is out of hours, you can call the main prison switchboard.
You may not hear back from the prison due to data protection but the prison have a duty to listen to the voicemail and decide what action needs to be taken. There is a process in place that supports people at high risk in prison, there will be teams working together including prison wing staff and healthcare teams if necessary, to put the right support in place for the individual.
